Home of the Oilers and Flames. Alberta's regulated online betting market opens on July 13, 2026, with AGLC oversight and around 50 operators. 18+
Alberta is Canada's fourth most populous province (around 4.8 million people) and one of the most sports-obsessed, with two NHL teams, a CFL presence and a passionate betting community. On July 13, 2026, Alberta becomes the second Canadian province after Ontario to open a competitive, regulated online betting and iGaming market to private operators.
The market is overseen by a dual-body model that mirrors Ontario: the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) acts as the regulator, while the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) manages the commercial side — the same structure as Ontario's AGCO and iGaming Ontario. Around 50 operators have registered to launch, including Bet365, FanDuel, DraftKings and Caesars.
Until now, PlayAlberta (launched 2020) was the province's only authorised online platform, and the large majority of Albertans' online wagering took place on offshore sites. The regulated launch is designed to channel that activity into a licensed market with provincial consumer protections, while PlayAlberta continues to operate alongside the new private operators.
Yes. Bet365 is among the operators registered to launch in Alberta's regulated market on July 13, 2026, under AGLC oversight. It is consistently one of the most popular sportsbooks among Alberta bettors, and for good reason: the widest selection of NHL markets (crucial for Oilers and Flames fans), live streaming of hundreds of events, Cash Out functionality, Bet Builder for same-game parlays, and competitive odds on North American sports.
Moving from an offshore-dominated landscape to a regulated market brings real consumer protections that mirror Ontario's framework:
Provincial oversight — Licensed operators must meet AGLC standards, including segregated player funds, mandatory responsible gambling tools and a centralised self-exclusion system available from day one.
Stricter advertising rules — As in Ontario, public advertising of bonuses, free bets and other inducements is restricted; operators may only present such offers on their own sites or through direct marketing to customers who have opted in. Athletes and celebrities are also banned from sportsbook advertising.
18+ age requirement — Alberta's minimum betting age is 18, one year lower than Ontario's 19+.
As Alberta's regulated market opens, we only list operators that have registered with the AGLC to launch in the province. Of the sportsbooks we review, Bet365 and Betway are on the AGLC registration list for the July 13 launch. Other international brands remain accessible to Albertans but are not part of the regulated market, so we do not feature them on this page.

Some international operators also list cryptocurrency, though its availability under Alberta's regulated framework depends on each operator's approved payment processes.
Market: Both provinces now run regulated, competitive markets — Ontario since April 2022, Alberta from July 13, 2026. They are the only two open private markets in Canada.
Regulator: Alberta is overseen by AGLC and AiGC; Ontario by the AGCO and iGaming Ontario.
Age: Alberta is 18+; Ontario is 19+.
Bonus advertising: Both provinces restrict public advertising of bonuses and inducements — offers may only appear on the operator's own site or via opt-in marketing.
Election betting: Alberta does not permit betting on elections, a market that exists in some other jurisdictions.
